The UCLA Football team received their second commitment of the day from 2018 3-star linebacker Matthew Tago.

BOOM! UCLA Football was cleaning up on the recruiting on Sunday as they received a commitment from 3-star LB Matthew Tago (Quartz Hill/Lancaster, CA). He committed to the Bruins shortly after 4-star CB Olaijah Griffin, son of rapper Warren G., gave his pledge to the Blue and Gold.

With this commitment, UCLA Football now has a total of 20 for the 2018 recruiting class (the Bruins also got a third commit on Sunday from 3-star WR CJ Parks, which Go Joe Bruin will cover shortly).

Listed at 6’3″, 228 lbs Tago is already a man among boys in high school and demonstrates that with ease. He can go from running stride for stride with a running back to shooting gaps to make tackles for loss.

Depending on which recruiting site you use Tago is listed as either a four-star or a three-star. 24/7sports.com lists Tago as a three-star recruit while Scout.com has him bumped up one star. No surprise here that Tago uses the Scout.com rating for his twitter bio.

Tago is the younger brother of former San Jose State LB Christian Tago and while he has his brother’s intensity, it is clear to see who has more athleticism. Matthew should only continue to grow and refine his game as a LB given the UCLA Football program sent up and coming LB coach Scott White to recruit him.

Tago can play inside or out but given his frame and the likelihood that he will only get bigger and stronger we here at GJB could see him moving to OLB as a pass rusher for the Bruins. He already looks a lot like former UCLA Football LB and current Minnesota Vikings LB Anthony Barr. Both have very similar body types and athleticism.

Bruin fans have to be giddy thinking they could get similar results much sooner than they saw them from Barr. This is a big get Bruin fans. While Isaiah Johnson is a solid pickup at the LB position, you can’t help but be excited about what Tago would bring to Westwood.
