6 UCLA-related people on ’50 Most Powerful in SoCal Sports’
The Orange County Register has put out their list of the 50 most powerful people in SoCal sports and six UCLA-related individuals made it in 2017.
Every year, the most important people in Southern California athletics are ranked according to their contributions in the ‘50 Most Powerful in SoCal Sports‘ list and like they do every year, several individuals associated with UCLA Athletics have made the list.

Author Clay Fowler had developed the list for the Orange County Register which is essentially a who’s who list of the most important sports figures in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas.
With UCLA being huge part of Southern California sports, it is no surpise that six people close to the University of Champions have made this list. Here are the selected individuals:
5. Casey Wasserman – L.A. Olympic Candidature Committee Chairman
Not only did Wasserman contribute to the development of UCLA’s new football facility, but he is also the head of the committee that is trying to return the Olympics to the city of Los Angeles. This guy does it all.
23. Dan Guerrero – UCLA Atheltic Director
Guerrero has spearheaded the development and construction of UCLA’s new football and basketball facilities, which is going to be a huge boost for UCLA Athletics moving forward.
37. Jim Mora – UCLA Football Head Coach
Despite his first losing season last year, Mora still has pull in this city. This off-season he stripped apart his offensive staff and rebuilt it in hopes of turning his program around in 2017.
39. LaVar Ball – Big Baller Brand
Depsite his brashness, Ball has started an empire based on the success of his sons and it looks like it is paying off, “big” time.
40. Lonzo Ball – Former UCLA Basketball Player/Los Angeles Lakers Guard
The true Big Baller made a name for himself at UCLA and now looks to do the same in the pros with resurging Lakers.
48. Josh Rosen – UCLA Football Quarterback
Rosen is back and ready to once again show everyone that he is one of the best QBs in the nation after an injury caused him to sit out the second half of last season. He is also the only currrent UCLA athlete to make this list.

One name that is not on this list, and it is a bit of a surprise, is UCLA Basketball Coach Steve Alford. Despite, a losing season in the previous year, he was able to bring the Bruins back to elite status with a 31-5 record and a return to the Sweet 16. For the full list, click HERE.
