UCLA Football Recruiting: WR Devon Cooley Commits to UCLA
The UCLA Football team has added another blue-chip receiver to the 2018 class, as WR Devon Cooley has committed to the Bruins.
UCLA Football picked up a huge skill position commitment on Thursday afternoon, as wide receiver Devon Cooley (Buena Park, CA/St. John Bosco) announced his commitment to the Bruins through his Twitter account during a visit to Westwood.
Cooley, a consensus high 3-star recruit but a solid 4-star on Scout.com and member of the 2018 Scout 300, has been a strong UCLA lean since he was verbally offered by the Bruins at their on-campus Elite Camp in the summer of 2016.
After many visits to UCLA’s campus and a year of building bonds with UCLA’s coaches, both old and new, Cooley confirmed what many suspected was an inevitability by locking down his spot in UCLA’s 2018 football recruiting class.

After a 2017 class in which former wide receivers coach Eric Yarber totally dropped the proverbial ball by failing to bring in even a single wide receiver signee, it was vital that the 2018 class get off to a solid start at the wide receiver position and that’s exactly what UCLA has done by reeling in Kyle Philips to start in April and now Cooley as the second high-end receiving prospect in the class.

Standing 6-foot-1, Cooley brings a solid package of size, quickness, and catch radius to the mix at UCLA. He has a big frame with room for growth, solid hands, and quick feet to create separation, although he’s not a burner. However, he does have a long stride, so he just gobbles yards up when he hits full speed. Cooley shows some nuanced route running, but will need be more consistent in it at the next level.

With two solid pieces in Philips and Cooley on board, UCLA wide receivers coach Jimmie Dougherty can really start swinging for the fences trying to bring in some top prospects to round out his group in the 2018 class.
Players like Jalen Hall (Los Angeles, CA/Long Beach Poly), Devon Williams (Lancaster, CA/Antelope Valley), Bryan Addison (Gardena, CA/Serra), and Chase Cota (Medford, OR/South Medford) are all on the board waiting to see what the Bruins will do on offense in 2017 as UCLA tries to turn what is already a good 2018 group into a great one.
Welcome to Westwood, Devon!
