The UCLA football team lost their first commitment for the 2018 recruiting class as three star running back A.J. Carter has flipped to LSU.
Until a player signs a national letter of intent, teams don’t necessarily have a lock on their commits. Today, the UCLA Football team found that out once again as 3-star Louisiana running back AJ Carter decommitted from the Bruins and gave his pledge to LSU.

Carter was the only running back in the 2018 recruiting cycle for the Bruins which means they now have to try to find another for this class.

It was unlikely Carter was going to see time on the field in 2018 with Bruins deep at the running back spot for the next few years. Though if that was part of the reason for his flip, he is still going to have to battle for playing time at LSU as Carter is the second RB to commit to Ed Orgeron’s squad.
UCLA running backs coach DeShaun Foster will now have to turn his attention to a few other recruits in 2018. Currently, the Bruins are targeting 4-star backs Justin Watkins, Chris Brown and Toa Taua.
Carter is the second player to decommit from the Bruins in this cycle after DB Jhevon Hill recommitted a short time ago.

Aside from these two decommitments, the Bruins have been doing very well recruiting in the last few weeks. Over the weekend, UCLA landed three commitments: 2019 LB Jonathan Perkins and 2018 OL Marco Brewer and Trey Stratford. For 2018, UCLA is now up to #15 in Scout.com’s recruiting class rankings.
