With the 18th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, the Indiana Pacers have selected UCLA Basketball power forward TJ Leaf, the Bruins’ leading scorer from last season.

The UCLA Basketball program had their second player from last season selected in the 2017 NBA Draft as power forward TJ Leaf was taken 18th by the Indiana Pacers.

Earlier in the draft, Lonzo Ball was picked 2nd overall by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Leaf is an extremely versatile offensive player. His length and quickness helps him get around defenders under the basket and has the ability to score with ease. He knows exactly where to be on the court and has great awareness around the paint.

Leaf is excellent around the rim, but also has a dangerous outside shot that could spread defenses, especially since Leaf will be playing at the 4 spot. Last season, he shot 46.6% from behind the arc, which was one of the best averages in the Pac-12.

The Pacers bring in a player that can immediately contribute to scoring. Leaf will most likely play off the bench, but will give good minutes when he steps on the court.

One thing Leaf has to improve is his mass and bulk up a bit, but that should come in time with development. If Leaf can get stronger, he will not only be able to back down defenders, but hold off his opponents on the other end who are trying to back him down.
