Lonzo Ball’s first signature shoe has arrived via Big Baller Brand. Is it really worth that enormous price tag? Unlikely.

Lonzo Ball‘s first signature shoe dropped yesterday and created a media firestorm. The cause: their hefty $495 price tag; and thats just for the shoes. You can also get a Lonzo Ball-signed pair for $995 or a pair of flip flops for $220.

I’m all for entrepreneurship and trying to do your own thing but $495 for a pair of shoes? Really? Are the Balls really going to be that much better than the three pairs of Jordan’s I could buy for the same price?

Probably

Definitely not.

This morning on ESPN radio’s The Dan Le Batard Show, Lavar Ball defended his bulky price tag.

"“Prada and Gucci is selling theirs for what they want. Ours is better than that. It feels better,” he said"

He also offered a tweet in typical Lavar Ball fashion indicating if you can’t afford the shoes, you’re not good enough for them.

Interestingly, many professional athletes have purchased the shoes (probably because the price tag is pocket change to them).

Others weren’t buying into the hype. Like incoming freshman UCLA Football player Jaelen Phillips who tweeted:

If you’re not an athlete where half a grand is nothing to you, you’re probably not buying the ZO2s (nor should you). It should only be a matter of time before Lavar Ball drops the price on the shoes because he is not using the best practices to expand the brand.
