In episode 129 of the ‘What’s Bruin Show’ we look at the end of the UCLA Basketball team’s 2016-17 season. Though it ended in disappointment, we discuss why the season as a whole was not.

In this episode, hosts Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I wrap up the NCAA Tournament that was as we get into UCLA Basketball and the unfortunate end to their season.

We start off with a quick recap of the UCLA Women’s Basketball team during our Go Joe Bruin Headlines segment. It was an extremely tough mountain to try to climb for head coach Cori Close and her Bruins, but they could not take down the #1 Connecticut Huskies in the Sweet 16.

We then recap UCLA Men’s Basketball’s loss to Kentucky in their respective Sweet 16. The build up to the game was intense, the first half was nailbiting, but in the end it was a letdown for UCLA fans as Kentucky was unstoppable.

So with the season over, the off-season is officially here and there are a great many things that UCLA already has some buzz about.

After the game, Lonzo Ball declared for the NBA Draft, a few other Bruins said they were not sure about their plans for next season and Head Coach Steve Alford says that he is not going anywhere, which is good because the next morning Archie Miller was offered the Indiana job which Alford was rumored to  be the front runner for.

We then finish off the show with a look at an article by a friend and guest host, Jim Bendat as he explains in his article One Title in 42 Years, why UCLA did not immediately start winning championships once John wooden had moved on.
