There is a “report”, which could just as likely be a rumor, that UCLA Basketball coach Steve Alford has interest in the head coaching position at Indiana.

Did you wake up like I did this morning, in a groggy post-loss fog after UCLA Basketball‘s semifinal exit in the Pac-12 Tournament, only to be thrown for a loop by a “report” that Bruin Coach Steve Alford is interested in the head coach position at Indiana?

Well if not, strap in…

This morning, a “report” was floating around the Twittersphere that Alford has “significant interest” in being the Head Coach at Indiana. Justin Albers, former member of Scout.com, had tweeted this information out late Friday night. The tweets have since been deleted, but the fact that this information was released raises an eyebrow.

SB Nation’s Indiana site, The Crimson Quarry, had captured the tweet in a recent article.

The first of two tweets by Albers stated:

"If the Indiana job were to open, UCLA coach Steve Alford would have “significant interest” in coming back to IU, per multiple sources. #iubb"

A few things here… Albers does not cite any source, so this, as far as we know, is only a rumor. Though it is curious that the tweets have been deleted.

Also, Indiana already has a coach, Tom Crean. But truth be told, it does not seem like he will be there long.

Now let us say this is true. It is understandable that Alford would want to go back to the school he played for, but this seems like a step down from UCLA (no disrespect to Indiana). Indiana is a bit of a hot mess right now and Alford has things on the up and up at UCLA, especially with recruiting. So why would he want to leave?

Considering it has not been the smoothest of tenures, maybe Alford would want to start over in a familiar place. But that is just an opinion. Based on what is, at best, a rumor.
