UCLA Women’s Basketball Tournament Preview

UCLA would hope that Utah beats Arizona State as the Sun Devils have played the Bruins tough in the Bruins’ two victories. Head Coach Cori Close and her squad might have a better matchup against the Utes, but it is probable that #5 ASU will have a third shot at the Bruins… and will most likely lose for a third time.

The Bruins should meet Oregon State in the semifinals, the #6 team in the nation. The two split the series this season, with the Bruins having the bigger home victory, 66-56, as opposed to the Beavers’ home win, 68-61. Either way, this will be an epic battle, the first of two for whoever comes up the winner in this game.

Now if they get to the Championship Game, my money would be on the Bruins facing Stanford after they take out Washington in the other semifinal. Pac-12 leading scorer Kelsey Plum (31.6 ppg) is amazing, but she can only carry the Huskies so far and with Stanford having a bit more depth, the Cardinal should grind out another win against Washington.

Either way, the Bruins have defeated both of these teams this season and only lost to UW as UCLA defeated then-#8 Stanford for the first time in Maples Pavilion since 1999 back on February 6.

The way UCLA has played this season shows promise for them in the tournament. They are currently on a 4-game win, are consistently playing at a high-level and because of it, have a very good chance of winning it all. Go Bruins!
