Bruin Briefs: UCLA Men’s Water Polo is Lit and More on UCLA Athletics

Go Joe Bruin takes a look at how the Bruins are progressing through the fall as several UCLA teams are in the midst of interesting seasons. 

Basketball

The UCLA Bruins have begun practice and will be kicking off the season with an exhibition game versus Master’s University on November 1st at 7:30 PM PT (Pac-12 Network). Tune in to get a closer look at freshmen sensations Lonzo Ball and TJ Leaf.

Most recently, the program got a hefty donation from current NBA player Kevin Love.

Cross Country (Men’s #27)

UCLA Cross Country participated in the Mustang Challenge this past Saturday in Santa Clarita, CA. The Bruins had a strong performance highlighted by unattached runner Garrett Reynolds, who placed first in the competition, breaking the record last set in 2013.

The Bruins will be traveling to Madison for the Wisconsin Invitational taking place October 14th.

Football (Overall 3-2, Conference 1-1)

UCLA Football defeated the Arizona Wildcats 45-24 at home. Although the Bruins looked shaky at the beginning, they regrouped to get a resounding win. The Bruins will be traveling to Tempe where they’ll face ASU next Saturday at 7:30 PM PT (ESPN2).

Men’s Golf

UCLA Men’s Golf and sophomore Matt Hutchins both placed third at the Marquette Intercollegiate, which took place at the Milwaukee Country Club last Monday.

The Bruins will see action again on October 21st when they travel to Alpharetta, GA for the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.

Men’s Soccer (#19, Overall 5-3-1, Conference 1-1-0)

The Bruins beat Oregon State 2-0 this past Sunday. Prior to this game, UCLA had lost the last two games, including taking a 4-0 beating by Washington. The losses caused the Bruins to drop from #13 to #19 in the rankings.

UCLA will play San Diego State next Saturday, October 8th.

Men’s Tennis

UCLA Men’s Tennis opened the season at the ITA Men’s All-American Championships in Tulsa, which goes through October 10th. To get up-to-date results of the event, follow @uclatennis.

The Bruins will next participate in the UCSB Classic October 7th – 9th in Santa Barbara.

Men’s Water Polo (#1, 17-0)

To say the UCLA Men’s Water Polo team is on fire is a crazy understatement. This team is hot alright. The Bruins are undefeated this season after beating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 17-4 this past Saturday.

The Bruins will see action again on October 8th against the University of the Pacific.

Women’s Basketball

The Bruins will open the season in an exhibition game against Westmont on November 3rd at Pauley Pavilion.

Women’s Golf

UCLA Women’s Golf opened its season last week in the Annika Intercollegiate in Orlando, FL. The Bruins placed third in team play while sophomore Lilia Vu placed second.

The Bruins will participate in the Stanford Intercollegiate on October 14th in Palo Alto.

Women’s Rowing

The Bruins will open the season in the Marina Challenge on October 11th in Ballona Creek, Marina del Rey.

Women’s Soccer (#7, Overall 9-2, Conference 3-0)

Here’s another UCLA team that’s on a roll. The Bruins defeated Oregon last Sunday, attaining a six-game win streak. The Bruins finished strong despite losing senior Darian Jenkins to injury. The extent of her injury is still unclear.

The Bruins will play California on October 6th at 7 PM PT (Pac-12 Network).

Women’s Volleyball (#10, Overall 11-3, Conference 2-2)

In their last game, the Bruins were upset by Colorado in a four-set game. Despite that little bump on the road, UCLA will seek to rebound when they host Arizona State on October 7th at 7 PM (Pac-12 Networks).

Swimming & Diving

The Bruins will open the season on October 14th in Dallas, Texas, when they participate in the SMU Classic.

Women’s Tennis

The Bruins are currently participating in the ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, CA, which goes through October 9th. To get all the action, make sure to follow @uclawtennis.
