One Last Chance for March Madness

Welcome to the sixth iteration of this year’s Go Joe Bruin Bracketology as it is March Madness! All projections are made by compiling data and using a formula to convert all of these numbers into a final score for each team.

Some teams have already punched their tickets to the Big Dance. Others are nervously hovering around the bubble. And then there’s the rest of the teams, teams like UCLA, who only have one path left to the field of 68: the conference tournament. This is March Madness.

The Bruins are a 10-seed in the Pac-12 Tournament after losing their final four games of the season. Thus, there is no shortage of skeptics out there who say that the season is over for the boys from Westwood. They may have a point, considering their record is 15-16.

But perhaps the skeptics haven’t looked at a calendar recently. They may not know that it’s March.

March is the most magical time of the year.

It’s when the biggest underdog in the conference tournament wins four straight games and a ticket to the Big Dance with a record of 16-17. It’s when a kid named Pancake can make miracles happen. It’s when decades of frustration of despair finally give way to triumph. It’s when one lucky bounce can make dreams come true.

It’s impossible for the Bruins to win the Pac-12 tournament? Please.

This is March. This is madness. Let’s make sense of it all.
