Congratulations to the first bubble burster in Go Joe Bruin Bracketology history: Tulsa. The Golden Hurricanes are in, and deservedly so, according to the blind résumé test (which you can see for yourself in about two minutes).

Based on the recaps of gave of five bubble teams last slide, you would think that the only one of them to make it to the tournament certainly wouldn’t be Butler. After all, everyone else had these big upset victories, while all there was to say about the Bulldogs was something along the lines of uhhh…well they didn’t lose, so that’s good.

That’s very good, as it turns out. Butler stays in the field of 68 because they didn’t do anything to hurt their résumé, unlike the others.

Following their upset over Texas A&M, Vandy laid an egg with a loss at Ole Miss. Kansas State lost at home vs. Baylor by 10. St. Joseph’s strolled into the capital and smacked George Washington by 18 points. Prior to beating Iowa State, Texas Tech fell at the hands of Texas by double digits.

  • While it seems harsh that losses against decent teams keep this quartet of squads out of the tournament, especially since another slot opened up thanks to Louisville‘s punishment, there are other circumstances at play.

Tulsa was projected to have the American Athletic Conference’s automatic bid last week, but now Temple sits atop the AAC standings, which casts the Golden Hurricane back into the lot with the rest of the bubble teams.

The Red Raiders also lost their spot because of Wisconsin‘s meteoric rise. The Badgers have won six straight since being ranked 71st by the formula in week 1.

Keep in mind that things probably changed this weekend, however. The projections didn’t account for any of the weekend games, which included Tulsa losing to Connecticut, Texas Tech beating Baylor, and Wisconsin upsetting Maryland.
