UCLA Football picked up another piece for its 2016 recruiting class on Saturday night, as 3-star safety Keyon Riley committed to the Bruins.

Ever since UCLA offered 3-star safety Keyon Riley (Anaheim, CA/Servite) last spring, the Bruins have stood out as the prohibitive favorite in his recruitment.

That has officially paid off.

Riley is officially visiting Westwood this weekend and on Saturday night, he decided to lock down his spot in UCLA’s 2016 football recruiting class, as he committed to UCLA defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin and the Bruins:

Keeping in line with Jim Mora‘s stated goal of adding size to the UCLA defense, Riley is a bigger safety whose strengths as a defender lie in his physicality. His style of play is reminiscent of current Bruin safety Tahaan Goodman.

Riley is at his best getting a head of steam and viciously hitting anyone who crosses his airspace, but he will need to get better at backpedaling in coverage in order to be a true impact player as a safety in Westwood.

Riley joins early enrollee and 3-star Leni Toailoa (Rialto, CA/Carter) as the safeties (and defensive backs in general) committed to the Bruins so far in the 2016 class.

While the class looks likely to not include any cornerbacks, the looming potential addition of 4-star athlete Brandon Burton (Gardena, CA/Serra) would round off the safety group very nicely and give UCLA a needed infusion of size on the back end of the secondary.
