After a disappointing 7-4 season, albeit one capped off by the fourth straight victory over USC, Terry Donahue is tempted by the thought of calling it quits after 20 years of being the head coach at UCLA. After flirting with the idea of jumping to the NFL twice – in 1987 with the Falcons and 1994 with the Rams – Donahue considers whether he would be interested in moving on to broadcasting or administration.

But he remembers the recruits he’s signed for next year, and the promise they and his current underclassmen hold to accomplish something really special in the next few seasons. He knows he would regret not being a part of that. So Donahue recommits himself to the UCLA football program, deciding that this will be his legacy.

The Bruins face No. 11 Kansas in the Aloha Bowl on Christmas Day. Under the sure hand of their re-energized coach the Bruins upset the Jayhawks 38-30, bringing their record to 8-4.
