Not to say that Head Coach Cori Close was on the hot seat, but things might be different if the Bruins did not get the WNIT bid. But UCLA did and Close was able to rally her team with one last shot in the 2015-16 season and proved that her work was not over.

It was unfortunate that the UCLA Women’s Basketball team had once again underperformed in both the season and once again in the Pac-12 Tournament, but just when the light started to fade, the Bruins were brought back from an early off-season with an invitation to play in the consolation tournament to the NCAA.

The Bruins did not flinch as they not only accepted the bid, but tore through the competition and rattled off six straight wins to capture the tournament. It was especially huge for the Bruins to win as they had to play the Championship Game at West Virginia in front a loud Mountaineers arena. That was a milestone in and of itself.

But now the Bruins are expected to go a bit further and Close has her sights set on another winning season. The pieces are there for the Bruin coach, so can she now take advantage of all of this talent and make UCLA a contender in the Pac-12 once again?
