If you play Grambling State, you won’t move up even if you crush them. Conversely, if you play a ranked team on the road and give them a run for their money, you could move up in the polls, as Washington does here. Because in week 1, you can get points for effort.
This simply wasn’t supposed to happen. Their starting quarterback, Cyler Miles, decided to retire from football not three months ago. They trailed 16-0 at halftime. And yet, they were able to put together a valiant effort against a formidable opponent.
Washington wasn’t supposed to play the way they did against Boise State, but they are supposed to beat Sacramento State.
