Junior shortstop Kevin Kramer was drafted in the second round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Fansided’s Pirates blog, RumBunter, notes that the Pirates used their first three picks (the third of which was Kramer) on SS or 3B. Overall, the Pirates took seven SS/3B players in the draft, as well as having taken a shortstop with their first round pick in last year’s draft. The left side of the infield is clearly an area of need, which creates an opportunity for a young player like Kramer to move quickly through the system, but he will have plenty of competition moving forward.
