9. Kyle Whittingham, Utah Utes

Record: 85-43 at Utah, 85-43 overall

“Almost” will define Kyle Whittingham if he does not find ways to win late in games and win late in the season.  Just because he is 9th on this list, does not mean that he is a bad coach. On the contrary, he is the 9th best coach in the Pac-12. There is no denying his success at Utah, but since they entered the Pac-12, it has been a different ballgame.

The Utes had spectacular wins in 2014, but also some head-scratching losses. They beat UCLA, USC and Stanford (twice, if you also count the season before), but he has also come up short in several other games. That loss to Washington State was a huge and did them no favors with their resume, but at the end of the day they are winning. Now if Whittingham can get his Utes to win consistently, he will definitely move up in these rankings.
