The UCLA Women’s Water Polo team are back in the National Championship game after beating the Cal Golden Bears 9-5 in the semifinal round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. It is the second year in a row they will be playing in the Championship Game, after unfortunately losing to Stanford last year, though the Bruins could get revenge as they will play the winner of the other semifinal game between Stanford and USC .

The Bruins dominated the game from the start as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead with goals from (in order) Alys Williams, Rachel Fattal, Kodi Hill and India Foster. At halftime it was 4-1.

Though the Golden Bears managed to sneak in four more goals of their own, it was not without a strong finish by the Bruin women. In the second half, Fattal added two more goals for a game-high of three. Hill and Williams added one more each with Mackenzie Barr topping the victory off with UCLA’s ninth goal of the afternoon.

As stated above, the Bruins will face the Stanford-USC winner in the Championship Game at 5:30 p.m. PT on Sunday. If they win, it will be the Women’s first championship since 2009, making it a total of 8. It will also be UCLA’s second championship of the 2014-15 season and 113th National Championship overall.

GO BRUINS!
