Could Eastern Washington’s Vernon Adams Be Heading To UCLA?

UCLA’s 2015 quarterback competition could get very interesting as reports that Eastern Washington‘s Vernon Adams could possibly transfer to Westwood. The dual-threat quarterback is on track to graduate from Eastern Washington University this spring and could spend his final year of eligibility some place other than the Pacific Northwest.

Jeremy Hinnen of CBSSports.com had released an article earlier today claiming that Adams’ high school coach said he was looking into UCLA as well as Texas. Bishop Alemany’s head football coach Dean Herrington told Hinnen that “They both want him.” It is also said that Oregon is in play for Adams’ services.

Adams has made a name for himself at Eastern Washington in the last few years. In 2014, Vernon passed for 3,483 yards and 35 touchdowns, while rushing for 285 yards and six touchdowns. But those numbers are a little low in terms of what he can do as he was out with an injury for four games. His stats in 2013 give a more accurate reading of what he is capable of as he threw for 4,994 yards and 55 touchdowns and rushed for 605 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Though that was mostly against Division II talent, he did manage to beat #25 Oregon State in 2013 and almost upset Washington in 2014.

With Brett Hundley heading got the NFL Draft, one of the big questions surrounding the Bruin’s passing game is who will succeed one of UCLA’s most successful quarterbacks.

Jerry Neuheisel and Asiantii Woulard have the most experience in the Bruin’s system, but there is talk that in-coming freshmen quarterback Josh Rosen has the tools to start right away. Though Rosen still needs to get acclimated with the offense, having Adams in for one year would help bridge the gap of uncertainty of UCLA’s passing game and give Rosen a year to master the offense.

Adams is expected to make his decision this Monday, February 6.
