UCLA has their hands full in this Regional match-up. Not only are the Bruins taking on the defending national champions, but they are also facing a team they met earlier this season. During the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge back in early September at Stanford, UCLA had faced the (then) #1 ranked Nittany Lions, unfortunately, it was a game to forget as the Bruins lost in three sets (19-25, 25-27, 17-25). Though the Bruins had a hard fought game, they were no match against Penn State who out-killed, out-blocked and out-played the Bruins.
Things are different at this point in the season as UCLA has won five of their last seve games and are riding a 3-game win streak. Unfortunately, Penn State has also had some success of their own as they are looking to win their 17th game in a row. Their last defeat was at the hands of Illinois who beat Penn State on their own court back in early October, a team the Bruins beat at that same meeting up at Stanford.
The Bruins are led by senior outside hitter Karsta Lowe who leads both the team and the Pac-12 in kills with 681 (5.9 per game). She will be added by senior setter Julie Corsani who is second in the conference with 11.5 assists per game.
Go Bruins!
