  • UCLA had never trailed in this game, though they got a scare when USC tied the contest in the fourth period at 7 with 3:32 remaining in the game. The Bruins were up 7-4 to start the half, but had a hard time containing the Trojans as they scored three unanswered goals.

The Bruins did not break as they were able to fight back in a game that was riddled with fouls from both teams. Late in the game, junior Danny McClintick had scored his fourth goal of the game to put UCLA up 8-7, but the Trojans were not done. Marc Vonderweidt had once again evened things up for USC at 8 with just under three minutes to go.

With just over a half a minute left in the game, Bruin sophomore Gordon Marshall had sent in a laser that would eventually be the game winner. Just like that, the Bruins beat USC, they win the National Championship and all is right in the world. Congratulations UCLA Men’s Water Polo!

    Go Bruins!
