UCLA Men’s Soccer Defeat Cal 3-2 To Move On In The NCAA Tournament

In their second match in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, the #2 UCLA Men’s Soccer team defeated Pac-12 rival the California Golden Bears 3-2 to move on to the quarterfinals. This was the first time UCLA beat the Golden Bears this season as Cal had taken the two regular season matches.

The Bruins started the scoring when Chase Gasper headed in a goal off a beautiful cross into the box. Brian Iloski doubled up the Bruins with a rocket of his own, making it 2-0 at halftime. Connor Hallisey of the Golden Bears scored first the second half to put Cal on the board but four minutes later UCLA increased their lead.

Leo Stolz sent in a pass to Jordan Vale as he booted the cross out of mid-air for the goal. Cal scored once more, but could not get the last one to tie as UCLA won 3-2.

The Bruins next play North Carolina on Saturday, December 2 at 5 p.m. PT at Drake Stadium. Go Bruins!
