After one hell of a defensive game on Saturday where the #18 UCLA Bruins (7-2, 4-2) shut down the #21 Arizona Wildcats (6-2, 3-2), the Jim Mora-led team has moved up to the 18th spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. The Bruins moved up four spots after a win against team that had an upset of their own earlier this season when the Wildcats beat the Oregon Ducks, the only team to beat them this season. It will take a miracle for the Bruins to even be considered for the College Football Playoff, but at the moment, they are heading in the right direction.

As for the rest of the country, well, as you can see for yourself, there is still a favorable amount of SEC teams lurking around the Top 10 as Mississippi State, Auburn and Alabama are in the Top 5. Although it has been debated that there is a Southeastern Conference bias, the College Football Playoff committee did not hold back when they dropped former #4 Ole Miss all the way down to #11.  As for Pac-12 teams, Oregon has moved into one of the top four spots while Arizona State‘s current run has them ranked #9 in the country.

As for other Pac-12 teams, Arizona moved down to #19 and Utah (despite losing to ASU) stayed at #17).
As discussed earlier this week, there is still a lot of football to be played before we have a final four of the best teams in college football, especially with several conference championships that are yet to take place. The same goes for the Bruins as UCLA’s chances to win the Pac-12 South Division, which will get then to the Pac-12 Championship Game, are still alive. But for now, it is nice to see the Bruins recognized as one of the top teams in college football.
