A UCLA squad in need of defensive line help got a major boost tonight, as 4-star defensive lineman Cassius Peat (Tempe, AZ/Corona del Sol) committed to the Bruins via his Twitter account.

Peat took his official visit to UCLA this past weekend for the showdown with Oregon and, despite UCLA’s poor performance in that game, loved his trip to Westwood enough to shut down his recruiting process and give UCLA his verbal commitment.
Peat’s surname should be familiar to UCLA fans: his brother Andrus is a former 5-star recruit and current left tackle for Stanford and his brother Todd was a 4-star defensive tackle who ultimately signed with Nebraska.
With such bloodlines, it’s no surprise that UCLA expects Cassius, who currently weighs about 235 lbs, to grow into a defensive lineman who weighs around 300 lbs down the line. He projects as a powerful 3-4 defensive end in UCLA’s defensive scheme.
Peat’s commitment is UCLA’s fourth defensive line commitment in this recruiting cycle, following those of Bryce English (Desoto, TX/Desoto), Rick Wade (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA/Santa Margarita), and Tak McKinley (San Pablo, CA/Contra Costa CC) . A great team is built from the trenches out and UCLA is keeping that maxim in mind in recruiting the defensive line so heavily, with priority DL recruits like Rasheem Green (Gardena, CA/Serra), Joseph Wicker (Long Beach, CA/Poly), and Benning Potoa’e (Lakewood, WA/Lakes) still heavily considering UCLA on top of the four aforementioned recruits who are already verbally committed or, in the case of McKinley, already enrolled and on the UCLA roster.
Welcome to Westwood, Cassius!
