Youth At Linebacker

Anthony Barr and Jordan Zumwalt are huge subtractions from the linebacking group. That could mean a step back for the LBs, but at the same time, there are several young guys that will have a chance to prove them selves this year. First off, do not forget the Bruins have Eric Kendricks and Myles Jack returning, which is huge. The could arguably be two of the best linebackers in the Pac-12.

Kenny Orjioke, Isaako Savaiinaea and Ryan Hofmeister played in several games last year, but did not have the number as the previously listed Bruins. There are also freshmen Jayon Brown, Zach Whitley and Kenny Young that could be difference makers early.

This could be one of the weaker position groups on the defense, and because of this, UCLA could shift formations to a 4-2-5, which would have only two linebackers in the field. That could be troubling, but at the same time promising. Though, the LBs have limited experience, make no mistake that Bruin coaching staff will have these guys ready for the fall. Linebacker coaches Jeff Ulbrich and Mike Tuiasosopo have a good, young group, one that will try to uphold UCLA as “Linebacker U”.
