UCLA will be hosting Catch Wrestling Alliance‘s ‘First Annual International Invitational Catch Wrestling Event’. Go Joe Bruin talked with Event Producer, Dr. Raul Ramirez and wrestler John Strickland of the Billy Wicks Foundation about the event being held at the John Wooden Center on Saturday, June 7 at 12 noon.

According to the event’s press release, it will be:

"U.S.A. versus the World, Featuring 16 wrestlers ushering in the REBIRTH of the professional sport of Catch Wrestling for the first time in 100 years in the United States."

Dr. Ramirez, who will be a referee during the event, defined Catch Wrestling as, “a very easy to understand form of wrestling. There are no points, there are no judges, you have to beat your opponent by submission or by pin.’ Strickland added, “I always refer to this type of wrestling as ‘I want to make you quit. I want to make you quit on the mat’. That is the kind of wrestling this is.”

The first time event will use traditional Catch Wrestling rules and have seven contests matching up 14 male and female participants. Tickets to the event are $25 for general admission, $15 for UCLA students (purchased at CTO only) and $10 for kids 16 and under. You can purchase tickets at Ticket Master. Come check out this once in a lifetime event which is appropriately being held at one of the most prestigious sports institutions in the nation!
