Running Backs: A-

We’re docking points because, while Johnathan Franklin was flawless in this game against Arizona State, the other running backs — Jordon James and Damien Thigpen — seemed to have a ho-hum afternoon, with just six carries and 21 yards combined.

Still, Franklin himself earned 164 yards on just 26 touches; he was his elusive self, bouncing away from defenders and running outside the tackles beautifully. Next week, Franklin will be sure to become UCLA’s all-time leading rusher at home against the Arizona Wildcats.

Offensive Line: B+

Perhaps the grading is a tad inflated because, let’s be real, Brett Hundley wasn’t entirely comfortable in the backfield.

That said, the offensive line often got a push long enough for quick routes to develop, allowing Brett Hundley to pick his targets while also doing well in run-blocking, giving Franklin space to work with.

Particularly, the line did a damn good job in the final 90 seconds of the game. Oftentimes, quarterbacks are forced out of the pocket and make horrifying mistakes due to their offensive line’s inadequacy late. In this game, Hundley was able to pick his targets due to his big men up front.
