UCLA Football Beats Colorado, 42-14

Ron Chenoy-US PRESSWIRE

Yes, UCLA won a road game in a convincing manner. You’re surprised? Me too, kind of.

The Bruins demolished the Colorado Buffaloes 42-14 on a day where the UCLA offense got right back on track after faltering against Oregon State and struggling against Houston the week prior.

UCLA’s defense also did a nice job of limiting Colorado’s offense, which racked up just 253 yards of total offense, and earning a lowly 35 yards on the ground. Had it not been for a garbage time touchdown catch from CU tight end Nick Kasa, UCLA would’ve also shut down Colorado in the second half.

The star of the game was, once again, Brett Hundley, who accounted for four of UCLA’s six touchdowns. Hundley’s line? 24-for-37, 307 yards, two touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Johnathan Franklin had a bounceback game, earning 111 yards off of just 15 carries, which was a result of him returning to the shifty running back we saw against Houston and Nebraska, and this was a likely result of center Jeff Baca returning from injury to bolster a young offensive line.

Of course, not all the news in this UCLA game was fantastic: Edward Lewis of Bruin Sports Report noted that freshman wide-out Devin Lucien had been in street clothes, and others noted that he had grabbed his shoulder after hauling in his first and only catch of the day. Here are the pair of tweets from Lewis:

Of course, that’s a pretty big blow since Lucien has been an explosive option at wide-out. We’ll keep you posted on his status as we hear about it.

We’ll have more notes and thoughts about this game as the weekend progresses. For now, enjoy another feel-good UCLA blowout win.
