UCLA Football Recruiting: 4-Star Offensive Guard John Lopez Commits To UCLA

facebooktwitterreddit

The UCLA football recruiting staff is on the trail and at it again. After Keyante Green decommitted last week, the Bruins nabbed a four-star offensive guard in John Lopez because we’re that damn good.

Adrian Klemm is that damn good, and he’s obviously become a friggin’ beast in recruitment in his short time at UCLA.

But want to know more about John Lopez? Here’s some highlight tape we found on YouTube:

So what can we take from this at face-value? The dude’s a hell of a pass blocker, and most of his highlights involve him dominating his assignment and buying a crap-load of time for his quarterback. Mind you, he is involved in quite a few plays that highlight his run-blocking, but the predominant strength, it appears, is pass-blocking. The dude seems to set his feet well and is incredibly reactive, or so the highlights would say.

How about them scouting reports? What do they say? They like Lopez for his size and strength, and deservedly so: the dude is 6’6” and weighs 315 pounds. The dude has nice footwork but, as the scouting reports say, he’s still pretty raw in terms of footwork and blocking technique, mainly his tendency to be super predictive. Also of note is his rawness with his hands, and the reports dislike his need to improve his leverage with his hands.

But the dude’s got a solid base, it seems, and he has all the potential to be a solid starter, for UCLA. The reports do talk of him dabbling at the tackle position, mind you, but they seem to come to a consensus that UCLA will be best off using him as an offensive guard to bolster our line.

But we’re alright with that, and we could totally use John Lopez. As the saying goes, line wins games.

Nico Falah who?
