If you missed it, former UCLA offensive lineman Nick Ekbatani was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him in an incredibly dangerous situation: Inches away from death. Not to sensationalize it here, but it’s incredible that Ekbatani has recovered the way he has.
In fact, he’s recovered so much, he’s now proclaiming himself an American Bad-ass and saying thanks to all of you fine folks for your support. Check it (via Inside UCLA):

This dude doesn’t seem the least bit distressed and he’s even joking around a little. He’s lost a portion of his leg, but when you’ve got an attitude like that, there’s little to no doubt in our minds that you’ll be just fine. Being positive and cracking jokes is the best way to recover from such tragedies and the dude is taking everything like a friggin’ champion.
The reaction from the UCLA community — often knocked for not being tight-knit enough sometimes — has been legitimate and various funds have been created to help Nick pay for a prosthetic leg so he can lead a more regular life than he would have without it.
We’re glad to see the dude’s doing so well, and considering he staved off death from a motorcycle accident and was declared 90 percent dead at the scene of the accident, we agree with his assertion that he truly is an American Bad-ass.
GO BRUINS!!!
If you’d like to help out Nick, you can visit the Big Nick Fund, which is now just $7000 away from its goal of raising $50,000.Â
