UCLA Weekly Fall Sports Update

Not counting football; considering what happened in Tucson, we don’t want to go there.

Here’s the latest in Westwood as of today, October 24th:

Women’s Volleyball:  18-3 overall, 11-2 in the Pac-12 Conference, currently ranked sixth in the country.

Swept Utah in their latest match at the John Wooden Center on UCLA’s campus and are now 7-0 at home. They will head for the Bay Area this weekend to face two highly ranked teams, California in Berkeley on Friday, Oct. 28th, and Stanford in Palo Alto on Sunday, Oct. 30th, in what will be two tough matches.

Women’s Soccer:  12-1-3 overall, 5-1-2 in the Pac-12, currently ranked third in the country.

Beat Arizona State 2-0 this past Sunday. Will go on the road to face the two new teams in the conference – Colorado in Boulder on Oct. 28th and Utah in Salt Lake City on Oct. 30th.

Men’s Soccer:  10-4-1 overall, 5-0 in the Pac-12, currently ranked 7th or 8th in the country depending on will poll you go by.

Suffered a disappointing loss to Cal State Northridge in their last game, 3-2, giving up two late goals to the Matadors. Will play Oregon State at Drake Stadium on the UCLA campus this Sunday, Oct.30th.

Men’s Water Polo:  15-3 overall, 2-1 in the Pac-12, now the top-ranked team in the country.

The Bruins’ two most recent games were essentially glorified scrimmages as they blew by Whittier, 20-0, and Pomona Pitzer, 14-4. They will now get some time off before facing Pacific on November 4th.

Women’s Golf:  Still ranked first in the country, they finished second to Alabama in the Pac-12-SEC Challenge this past weekend in Knoxville, TN, beating USC in the process, 869 (+5) to 880 (+16)

Two teams on campus ranked number one – that has to take at least a little bit of the sting off the football team’s woes.

I know I appreciate it, and they – and all the teams that UCLA fields – certainly deserve it. That’s why they’re getting coverage here.

Watch for these updates of the UCLA Bruins’ Olympic sports each Monday on this site.
