10 interesting facts about UCLA basketball for 2024-25

Now that we are in the heart of college basketball season, here are some interesting facts and information about UCLA basketball this season.

Now with the conclusion of the NFL and football season, many fans will now turn their attention to college basketball and here are some interesting facts that you may have missed.

No. 10: The Kings and Queens of the West Coast.

The UCLA men's basketball team has defeated Cal State Fullerton, Washington (twice), Gonzaga, Oregon (twice), and USC. They are undefeated against teams located on the West Coast this season

The UCLA women's basketball team has been victorious against Pepperdine, Fresno State, Hawaii, Washington, Long Beach State, Cal Poly, and Oregon. They like that the men's team is undefeated against teams from the West Coast.

No. 9: The women's team has won every showcase and MTE game this season.

They defeated Louisville in Paris, France, in the Aflac Oui-Play and they beat UT Martin, Fresno State, and Hawaii in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown. UCLA then defeated Creighton in the Invisalign Bay Area Women's Classic and Baylor in the Coretta Scott King Classic.

No. 8: The men's team has won seven straight games.

Since January 17th, UCLA has not lost a basketball game. They had lost four straight games before their current winning streak but they're not done yet mentality propelled them to seven straight impressive victories. They began with home wins against Iowa and Wisconsin, then went on the road and defeated Washington and USC for four consecutive victories. UCLA then beat Oregon, Michigan State, and Penn State.

No. 7: The men's team is 13-1 this season on their home court.

With the exception of a home loss to Michigan, UCLA has played exceptional basketball at Pauley Pavilion this season. Unlike last season, when they lost seven games on their home court, the Bruins have played very well at home. Their most impressive victories at home have come against Michigan State, Washington, Wisconsin, and Iowa. UCLA has three remaining home games this season.

No. 6: The women's team has won 18 games this season by 15 or more points.

Besides their impressive 18 wins by 15 or more points, they have won eight games by 30 or more points this season. Their most impressive wins by point margins against well-known opponents include defeating Purdue 83-49, Nebraska 91-54, Creighton 70-41, Long Beach State 102-51, Hawaii 70-49, Fresno State 97-41, and Arkansas 101-52.

No. 5: Transfers have played a major role in the men's team's success on the court this season.

Four of UCLA's top five leading scorers played at another school last season.
Tyler Bilodeau, a transfer from Oregon State, is the Bruins leading scorer this season, averaging 13.8 points per game. Eric Dailey Jr., a transfer from Oklahoma State, is the Bruins second-leading scorer and steals leader on the team. USC transfer Kobe Johnson leads the team in rebounds, assists, and steals and is also the Bruins's fourth-leading scorer.

No. 4: The men's and women's teams have defeated every former Pac-12 team this season.

The men's team has defeated Oregon and Washington twice this season. They also beat USC on the road and Arizona on a neutral court in Phoenix. The women's team also defeated Oregon and Washington this season as well. Both teams still have USC on their remaining schedules as well as the opportunity to play former Pac-12 teams in the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments.

No. 3: The women's team has been ranked No. 1 in the country for 12 straight weeks.

After defeating South Carolina, the former No. 1 ranked team in the country, in late November, UCLA has been ranked No. 1 in the country. They have played excellent basketball and do not seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

No. 2: The men's basketball team is currently tied for fourth place in the Big Ten and they have a realistic chance of winning the Big Ten regular season title.

UCLA has four losses, whereas the three teams at the top of the standings each have two losses. With seven regular season games scheduled, the Bruins still can win the Big Ten title if they were to continue their winning ways. They have Purdue on their schedule and they have already defeated Michigan State and Wisconsin. It will not be an easy task to climb the standings to win the regular season title but it is a realistic possibility.

No. 1: The women's team is undefeated with a 23-0 record and are the favorites to not only win the Big Ten title but to win a national championship this year.

Simply put, this is a very talented team with experience and solid leadership. They have a proven coach and a national player of the year candidate in Lauren Betts, who recently announced that she will not enter the WNBA draft at the end of the season. They have depth, with nine players averaging over 13 minutes a game, and besides Betts, they have two first or second-team All-Big Ten team candidates in Kiki Rice and Gabriela Jaquez. It is not a guarantee that they will win a national championship in 2025, but it is a strong possibility.
