UCLA Football players are tough as nails. They have to go through a grueling practice schedule and then take a physical beating on game days. However that would be a walk in the park compared to the world of Game of Thrones.

Without a doubt the face of this UCLA Football team is QB Josh Rosen. He’s on the front of almost every UCLA Football publication, poster and media piece. He has good reason to be. What Rosen was able to do as a true freshman at UCLA was nothing short of spectacular.

As a sophomore Rosen was forced to run for his life behind questionable coaching and a scheme that didn’t help his already underwhelming offensive line.

That running led to him being knocked out of the lineup six games into the season and requiring season ending shoulder surgery.

Spring practice showed us that Rosen’s shoulder was healed and he was ready to start what might very well be his final season in the Rose Bowl. He’s basically returned from the dead (you can tell where we are going with this GOT fans).

Now which character in Westeros (the world in which GOT takes place) most closely mirrors the path that Rosen is on? There have been more than a few characters that have returned from death to make an impact in the series but there’s only one that should even be discussed here.

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!

Josh Rosen is Jon Snow

It might seem like a cheap comparison with both being one of the main focuses for their worlds. Josh Rosen is at the forefront of the UCLA Football team and is the unquestioned face of this team.

Jon Snow is king in the North and looks to unite not only the northerners but all of Westeros against the coming war against the white walkers. Still with me Bruin fans? Alright let’s dive deeper.

Both Snow and Rosen have “returned from the dead” and are gathering the forces by their side to take on what may very well be the final battle. For Snow it is for the survival of humanity, for Rosen it will be for the survival of the UCLA Football season and possibly head coach Jim Mora’s job.

If we look even deeper, Rosen’s mechanics are some of the most beautiful that scouts have ever laid eyes on. Everything about his physical abilities are exactly what you’d want to see from your QB.

Snow has been thought of as one of the best swordsmen in all of the seven kingdoms and his form is nearly flawless. If you could draw up a swordsman you’d go with the Snow mechanics.

Let’s stretch it even farther.

When Rosen arrived on the UCLA campus he instantly became one of the most talented players ever to play in the Rose Bowl. He had initial success but in his second year, the supporting pieces around him weren’t what they needed to be and his demise was the result. I’m not going to say he was betrayed by his teammates but the surrounding pieces were not up to par.

When Snow arrived at Castle Black to serve the Night’s Watch, he instantly was the best fighter among them and after rising to the role of Lord Commander he was the victim of a mutiny and murdered.

Will both young men rise to the occasion and lead their respective groups to victories or will they fall against the rising of the tide? Only time will tell. For Snow, Winter has come. For Rosen, Fall is just around the corner.
