UCLA Football Head Coach Jim Mora said after Thursday’s morning practice that the Bruins might have a game at this year’s Spring Showcase.

The UCLA Football team might join the rest of the college football nation and actually have a Spring Game. Shocker, I know.

In the past few years, UCLA has formulated their spring game into what has been dubbed the “Spring Showcase”. What is that, exactly? Basically, it is a glorified practice.

Though the Showcases have tried to entertain Bruin fans with events surrounding the team’s final practice of spring, the product on the field has lacked, to say the least. And it is not that the Bruins are not putting out their best performance, it is that in most of the Spring Showcases under Jim Mora, fans have had to often endure anticlimactic and often monotonous practice-like situations with drills and 11-on-11s, rather than an actual game.

The last time the Bruins had actual game-like Showcase was in 2014, Brett Hundley’s last spring. It was also one of the more exciting spirng culminations for UCLA as it was hosted by the Stub Hub Center in Carson, CA.

The 27,000 seat soccer stadium, which is the home of the LA Galaxy, was small enough to accommodate the UCLA Football fans which created a fun and intimate atmosphere. The same vibe tried to be emulated last year at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA, though it was a bit lackluster because it was once again a glorified practice rather than an actual game.

Well Bruin fans, if everything works out, we could have an actual “Blue vs. White” game which is what most fans have been clamoring for. Not only does it bring excitement to the Spring Showcase, but it also allows fans to observe lesser known players as well as give a window into the upcoming 2017 season.

Mora stated that him and his staff would try to divide the team up evenly, though did not go into how that would be done. Either way, if there is an actual game, there is more of a reason for fans to show up. As much as we loooooove looking at drills, having a game would be the right way to go. Let us hope everything stays on track for this to happen.
