UCLA Football vs. UNLV Rebels: Go Joe Bruin Predicts the Game

The writers of Go Joe Bruin once again get together to predict the game that will be for the UCLA Football team as they take on the UNLV Rebels.

As the UCLA Football team moves forward from their loss to Texas A&M, they look to right the ship this weekend in a game against the UNLV Rebels.

The Bruins and Rebels square off in the second contest of this home-and-home series at the Rose Bowl for UCLA’s first home game of the season and we overwhelming think the result will favor the Bruins.

The Bruins come out trying to really send a message to the media, fans and themselves that they aren’t going in the tank this season. Defense flies around and perhaps we see a few more young guys in prominent roles on both sides. This Rebels are much improved so don’t be shocked to see some fireworks early but UCLA should pull away with ease before the half.

UCLA 48 – UNLV 24

UCLA bounces back after a tough loss last week to beat UNLV 48-24. Josh Rosen and Co. get off to a fast start, but the offense starts to fade once the lead grows to 24-0. After a couple of quick 3 and outs, UNLV is able to take advantage of a now gassed Bruin defense to put up some solid points before the game ends, but the result was never in question. Bruins win, on to Provo.

The offense is going to try to work out some kinks and show what it they are capable of. The defense won’t be tested all that much. This game, at home, will feel a lot less frustrating.

UCLA 31 – UNLV 10

Bruins cruise in a game they never need to get out of second gear to win and will be happy to emerge from this game with no new injuries as they move on to their preparations for a crucial battle in Provo with BYU in Week 3.

Jake Liker

UCLA 45 – UNLV 17

The Bruins, fearing the wrath of Jim Mora, drop no more than 1 ball all day. They are the better team, so the only way they lose this one is if they let it slip through their fingertips (pun intended). I’m counting on that not happening.

Ashley Tellier

UCLA 45 – UNLV 17

Rosen will come out a little off. However, with an offense ready to pounce after a tough loss on the road, the team will get the momentum they need. I expect the defense to look better than last week, but they will still struggle a bit and show they’re a work in progress.

UCLA 42 – UNLV 7

The Bruins have a very heavy advantage on paper, and look for the offense to kick into gear, hopefully over a full 60 minutes as it should be. Defensively, UCLA should be able to shut down an overmatched UNLV squad. Look for that unit to have a great performance in the home opener on Saturday, especially on the defensive line.

UCLA 42 – UNLV 7

Last year I predicted a shut out. I don’t think that will happen this year as Rebel coach Tony Sanchez has vastly improved this team. Though they will put up a fight, they are still going up against a team that has a lot more talent. The Bruins will click on offense and show some ferocity on defense.
