UCLA Football: Angus McClure To Stay With The Bruins

After being wooed by the Nebraska Cornhuskers, UCLA Football Defensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Angus McClure, will stay with the Bruins.

Can I get an “AYE!” That is right Bruin fans, UCLA Coach Angus McClure has fought off the overtures from the Nebraska Football program and is staying in Westwood. The UCLA Football coaching staff and their recruiting plan is secure for another year as McClure will retain his position.

According to Bruin Report Online, McClure was being heavily pursued by Nebraska Head Coach Mike Reilly for their vacancy on the defensive line. To add a little history, McClure is familiar with the program as he was an assistant under Bill Callahan at Nebraska from 2004-2005.

In reaction to this, UCLA Head Coach Jim Mora quickly moved to keep his defensive line coach with the Bruins and as BRO’s Tracy Pierson had stated, McClure will get a “significant raise and a two-year extension on his contract.”

Last year, UCLA was 8th in the Pac-12 in rushing defense, something the Bruins plan to improve going  into 2016. Though injuries and inexperience played a large part with UCLA’s run D last season, the future looks bright for the Bruins.

They return starters Eddie Vanderdoes and Takkarist McKinley, have experienced younger players like Eli Ankou, Matt Dickerson and Jacob Tuioti-Mariner getting into the mix and will also bring in seven new bodies from National Signing Day. With all of that presenting itself for next year, it was imperative that Mora lock in his coach going forward.

Aside from McClure, there are no other rumblings about coaching changes, so as of now, UCLA’s coaching staff is set for 2016. Go Bruins!
