UCLA Bruins
In Episode 56 of the What’s Bruin Podcast host Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I welcome guest host Jamaal Artis to the show as we talk about all things UCLA sports, especially NCAA Tournament talk. This past week had a ton of news both good and bad for the UCLA family and we spend extra time on this episode to get through everything.
First off, we talk about UCLA basketball’s surprising invite to the NCAA Tournament. Whether they deserve to go or not, they’re in and we talk about how salty the critics have been because of it. We then get into ‘The Game That Will Be’ as UCLA takes on the SMU Mustangs in the second round game.
Unfortunately, we also have some somber news as we pay our respects to former Bruin Jack Haley who passed away earlier this week. We also take time to honor Los Angeles sports radio legend Joe McDonell who past away last Friday. We then talk a little bit of football and the unfortunate news about UCLA suspending assistant coach Adrian Klemm.
But it is not all a downer, as we fight over which Spring Practice to attend. So there is that.

We also welcomed back to the show via the the ‘What’s Bruin Hotline’, special guest and fan favorite Jim Bendat, the “Godfather of Sports Trivia”. He gives us his knowledge on UCLA’s tournament history, talks about former UCLA coach and current SMU coach Larry Brown as well as reflects on a historical one-time game between UCLA and North Carolina basketball alumni.
