McCarthy chose to leave UCLA as a Junior to pursue an NFL career, and he will certainly get a shot in the NFL despite limited production in college. McCarthy was a huge recruiting coupe for the Bruins when he committed to UCLA in 2012, but only started a little less than a full season in his 3 years with the Bruins.
McCarthy will earn interest in the NFL as a run-plugging nose tackle that takes up blockers and refuses to be moved from the middle of the field. He has also shown some versatility and ability to play in 3-4 and 4-3, and he looks the part. He will get dinged for his bad knees (surgeries on both), possible weight issues, poor conditioning and his determination to play.
Look for Ellis McCarthy to be drafted in the mid to late rounds.
