Bruin Football Notes, Part Three

According to the Los Angeles Times (once again)…

Jeff Locke, UCLA’s All-American punter, didn’t practice yesterday due to his separated right shoulder suffered from a cheap shot by Spencer Hagan of California in the Bruins’ recent game against the Bears.

“It’s gotten better the last couple (of) days…It was just precautionary”, Locke said of his injury and sitting out. Michael Leamy, a walk-on, has been doing the punting at Spauldng Field in the meantime.

I’ll be surprised if Locke doesn’t play vs. Arizona State this Saturday at the Rose Bowl.

When I said that ASU linebacker Vontaze Burfict was a monstrous beast on the field that warrants concern in my upcoming match-up preview, I wasn’t kidding as several Bruins spoke of what they need to do with Burfict and his tactics such as trash talking and oftentimes overtly physical play:

“We’ve got to be disciplined out there…he tends to definitely do some things to try to provoke the opponent,” quarterback Kevin Prince said. He also commented that the Bruins need to “…not fight back and get penalties.”

Taking the high road is a good idea here, as fighting fire with fire in this case will only lead to trouble.

Meanwhile…

The kickoff time for UCLA’s game vs. Utah in Salt Lake City on November 12th has been set – it will be at 3:30 p.m. and Prime Ticket will televise it.
