UCLA Basketball: The 25 Greatest Bruins of all time
17. Lucius Allen, G (1966-68)
Why Allen is on this list:
There is a difference between playing on the UCLA basketball team and being a starter on a John Wooden team. There is also a difference between being a starter on a John Wooden team and a starter on what is considered one of the greatest college basketball teams in history. Allen was both.
As one of the best high school basketball players to come out of Kansas, he came to UCLA with a lot of talent in his possession. Averaging over 15 points per game throughout his college career, Allen was one of the most versatile players Wooden was able to coach. On top of that, he was a solid defender that helped shut down the Bruins’ opponents. Unfortunately, his UCLA was cut short and did not play his senior year for violation of team rules.
