Also trying to adapt to life without their star quarterback are the Cougars, who saw Connor Halliday‘s college career come to a tragic and untimely end after suffering a broken tibia and fibula against USC last season. As it turns out, that game against the Trojans would end up being the final game of Halliday’s entire football career, as he retired shortly before rookie minicamp.
While the Cougars won’t expect to have another quarterback throw for 734 yards in one game like Halliday did against Cal, it looks like they should brace themselves to lose football games, just like they did in that very same game against Cal.
This time around, however, a bowl game might be within reach. A New Mexico Bowl appearance wouldn’t be all that bad a year after going 2-7 in conference play.
