UCLA Football and the Race for the South Division

The UCLA Football team looks to keep their winning ways going as they take on Arizona State and try to stay on track to win the South Division.

Two games down, seven to go! Though the UCLA Football team still has plenty of chances to win the Pac-12 South Division, every game on the schedule is important.

Today, the Bruins are in Tempe to take on Arizona State. The Sun Devils have started strong, but were humbled last week by the USC Trojans. Like the UCLA, ASU is 1-1 in conference and though that might not mean a lot now, it will by the end of November.

After ASU (hoping the Bruins beat the Sun Devils), UCLA then travels to Washington State, are back home against Utah, face Colorado in Boulder on a Thursday night, host Oregon State then USC and finish at Cal.

South Division Standings

#21 Colorado 1-1, 2-0

Arizona State 1-1, 4-1

#24 Utah 1-1, 4-1

UCLA 1-1, 3-2

USC 1-2, 2-3

Arizona 0-2, 2-3

Now it could be said that the Bruins faced their two toughest opponents in Texas A&M and Stanford, but that does not mean that the rest of the schedule will be a cake walk.

Starting with ASU, the Bruins have to face a blitz-happy squad that will play like they have nothing to lose. Then UCLA has three games against teams that are near the top of their division (and could actually win it). Then to finish against USC and then in Berkeley will bring up a tough end to their season.

Though UCLA is only one game out of first place in the South Division, things can quickly turn. UCLA needs to find a way to get to the top and stay there. Starting with a win at ASU and taking one game at a time after that will help. Go Bruins!
