The announcement was made on the heels of the Republican National Convention taking place in Cleveland, Ohio, which wraps up today. The Republican Party had recently nominated Donald Trump as their nominee for the President of the United States.

Starting on July 25 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Democratic Party will hold their convention which is expected to nominate former first lady and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

With the Democrats preparing for the DNC, they are setting up speakers to support both Clinton and the Democratic Party.

Abdul-Jabbar has been a very outspoken detractor of Trump’s in the last year. His views on social issues have long been known and have been amplified in the last year with the rise of Trump. Abdul-Jabbar has written several pieces on the subject, with a very important piece in the Washington Post detailing what a vote for Trump means in Dear Trump Supporters, Hear Me out Before You Vote.

Abdul-Jabbar is set to speak next Thursday, July 28. He will be speaking in support of Clinton and the Democratic Party’s bid for the White House.
