UCLA Football Recruiting: Devin Asiasi Picks Michigan Over UCLA

UCLA Football misses on the commitment from De La Salle HS (Concord, CA) Four-Star Tight End Devin Asiasi.

A self-professed lifelong USC fan, Asiasi was also considering USC, Alabama, and Washington. Unfortunately, he is now heading to Michigan.

UCLA seemingly had him with the hire of Marques Tuiasosopo, who had been Asiasi’s lead recruiter and main point of contact on the USC staff. It was also widely assumed that Asiasi would commit with his best friend and high school teammate, four-star defensive tackle Boss Tagaloa. The two visited UCLA together in mid-December.

At 6’4″ and 270 lbs., Asiasi is an absolute giant whose body seems to project better on the defensive line in college, but whose tight end skills have wowed observers who are shocked that a player his size can run and catch the way that he does. It also goes without saying that Asiasi is a devastating blocker from the tight end position as well. So good for Michigan.

UCLA is not without a tight end as Jordan Wilson will be the lone player in that position in new offensive coordinator Kennedy Polamalu‘s power-oriented scheme. Asiasi was expected to be a big target for Josh Rosen, in the wake of Thomas Duarte‘s departure for the NFL Draft.

Still, Jim Mora and company will have to find another way to build around an offense that looks to incorporate tight ends and fullbacks in their schemes. But do not feel bad for the Bruins as the future is bright for UCLA Football.

Good luck in Ann Arbor, Devin!
