Meet Bill Roth, the new voice of your UCLA Bruins! Today, the UCLA Athletic Department introduced Mr. Roth as the next play-by-play announcer for both UCLA football and basketball. The Hall-of-Fame announcer has been the Virginia Tech football and basketball announcer for the last 27 years, but now brings his experience across the country to UCLA.

Roth replaces long time UCLA announcer Chris Roberts who let his retirement be known prior to the 2014 UCLA football season. After the basketball season ended a few weeks ago, there was speculation about who would replace Roberts. Ron Pitts of CBS Sports, College Football Announcer Josh Lewin and Matt Smith of 570 AM LA Sports were all said to have been candidates.

I am tremendously grateful, honored and humbled to be named the new ‘Voice of the Bruins’. -Bill Roth

Needless, to say the hiring of Roth is big. He is a legendary voice that is evident by the fact that he has been named Virginia Sportscaster of the Year 11 times in his illustrious career. Just listening to a few of his samples, you can tell Roth is very passionate and will take announcing for UCLA football and basketball to a whole new level.

Per UCLABruins.com, Roth said, “I am tremendously grateful, honored and humbled to be named the new ‘Voice of the Bruins'”. Though we will miss Chris Roberts, it is truly exciting to have Bill Roth join the Bruin Family. Welcome to Westwood!
