UCLA Football: Wide Receiver Primer After Devin Lucien’s Transfer

UCLA football wide receiver Devin Lucien decided to transfer recently. Although he was not a central focus of the Bruin gameplan, he was a solid wideout that was able to contribute when called upon.

Even though his production will be missed, if there is one thing UCLA’s receiving corps has, it’s depth. Despite Lucien’s absence there are many great receivers to look forward to in the 2015 season.

Eldridge Massington returns this season after a good 2014 and he should become more of a number two option now. He showed potential to be a quality WR last year, compiling 367 yards and three touchdowns on 25 receptions as a sophomore. He would definitely be a good safety valve for whoever wins the quarterback competition.

Devin Fuller is heading into his senior year in Westwood, and he definitely is an intriguing case. Fuller could definitely be classified as an explosive speed threat and look for him to become even more of a weapon on offense. He had 59 receptions for 447 yards last year, but only one touchdown. He will most likely improve on that in 2015 as he ends his Bruin career.

More from UCLA Bruins

Jordan Payton heads into 2015 as the sure number one option for UCLA. He will look to build on a fantastic junior season that garnered him some NFL looks. It was a great season indeed as he wound up with a grand total of 67 catches for 954 yards as well as seven touchdowns. Payton definitely brings consistency to the Bruins and it seems the only question with him is, barring any injuries, will he break the 1,000 yard mark?

Lastly, four-star WR Cordell Broadus comes to UCLA after an illustrious career at national powerhouse Bishop Gorman (NV). While it is difficult to project how big of a role he will have this season (he may get redshirted) he has the potential to be a good possession receivers both this season if he plays and moving forward throughout his career.
