12-1. That is UCLA‘s record playing at Pauley Pavilion this season. If you look at just the Pac-12, they are a perfect 5-0. With Oregon coming to town, the question is if the Bruins can keep their unscathed home conference record in tact. Not to say this contest is shoe-in, but the Ducks are 2-3 on the road in conference with those wins coming against Arizona State and USC. So there is that.

Preview: Aside from the fact that the Bruins are uber-fantastic at Pauley Pavilion, one thing does come to mind when thinking about the match-up between the Bruins and Ducks and that is their last meeting up in Eugene.

Oregon had dismantled a Tony Parker-less Bruin squad on January 24 in a game that was uglier than the Oregon football uniforms. A combination of bad shooting for UCLA (41%) and bad defense which allowed the Ducks to shoot 62.3% (9-13, 69.2% from 3-point land) had the Bruins returning home with their tails between their legs.

Since then the Bruins, albeit inconsistent, HAVE found ways to win. Whether it is switching things up on defense like they did against Utah or starting to feed the post so the ball gets to both Parker and Kevon Looney, it is clear that UCLA has improved since that unfortunate Saturday afternoon up in Oregon.

But first things first… can UCLA stop Oregon and their hot shot senior guard Joseph Young? Not only is he the top scorer in the Pac-12 with 19.9 per game, but against USC on Wednesday, he posted a game-high 26 points. The only problem was that it was barely enough as the Ducks beat the last-place Trojans by only five points.

As for UCLA, they seem to be on target offensively when they are at home. In the last game against Oregon State, every starter scored in double-figures, sans Norman Powell, with the team collectively shooting 47.8%. Though the Bruins missed several shots toward the end of the game, they were at one point posting a .600 field goal percentage midway through the second half.

But if we were to take a guess, against Oregon on Saturday, UCLA will probably use their front court to pound the ball inside with Parker, Looney and a late-blooming Thomas Welsh and really punish the Ducks. Either way, you can guarantee both teams will have their “A” game going.

Prediction: Oregon 63 – UCLA 74
