UCLA And Kentucky Look To Start A Home-And-Home Series Starting Next Season
Just as #22 UCLA’s (4-1) first round game against Oklahoma (3-1) begin today (which they lost 75-65), news hit that the Bruins were close to finalizing a home-and-home series against the Kentucky Wildcats. The first game would be scheduled for both team’s non-conference play in 2015 at Pauley Pavilion and head to Rupp Arena in 2016. With UCLA and Kentucky being two of the biggest names in college basketball, you can see how this is a big deal.

The match-up between the two most decorated national champions in college hoops would no doubt be big attractions in the coming years, but it also falls in line with what head coach Steve Alford has wanted to do since he arrived in Westwood… start playing big time opponents. Alford has been very adamant about improving the quality of UCLA’s opposition as he believes it will better prepare his team for both the conference schedule and post-season tournaments.
Alford got his wish starting this season as the Bruins will be playing several high-profile teams including Gonzaga, North Carolina and Kentucky. The Bruins will actually meet the Wildcats in a neutral site this season in the CBS Sports Classic in Chicago, Illinois on December 20. Though the Bruins have a lot to work on if they want to compete with the Wildcats and other elite teams, it is good to see that UCLA is looking to take on the best in hopes that they can be the best themselves.
Go Bruins!
