It Is Not Yet Over In The Pac-12 South Division – UCLA, Arizona State And Arizona Stay Alive
The Pac-12 South Division race is one step closer to being decided, but this decision is heading into the last weekend of the regular season. This past weekend, UCLA beat USC and Arizona beat Utah to eliminate the Trojans and Utes from contention to win the Pac-12 South Division. With that, only UCLA, Arizona and Arizona State remain in contention to be the south representative in the Pac-12 Championship Game. Before we breakdown who can win and how they can do it, let us look at the standings.
Pac-12 South Division Standings:
Team | Conference | Overall |
---|---|---|
#11 UCLA | 6-2 | 9-2 |
#13 Arizona State | 6-2 | 9-2 |
#15 Arizona | 6-2 | 9-2 |
#24 USC | 6-3 | 7-4 |
#20 Utah | 4-4 | 7-4 |
Colorado | 0-8 | 2-9 |
So what has to happen to decide a winner in the Pac-12 South Division? Let us break down the teams still in contention:

The Bruins still control their own destiny. If they beat Stanford this Friday, then they win the Pac-12 South Division. Plain and simple. Though the Cardinal are having a (very) down year, they are definitely not to be looked past, especially since UCLA has not beat Stanford in the Jim Mora era (they have had 3 attempts). If the Bruins lose their last game of the regular season, then two things can happen…
Arizona State
The only way ASU can win the South is if UCLA loses AND the Sun Devils beat Arizona. ASU had controlled their ow destiny, but a loss to Oregon State killed that, but not their Pac-12 South Division hopes. But ultimately, it depends on the Bruins slipping up.
Arizona
The only way Arizona can win the Pac-12 South Division is if UCLA loses to Stanford AND the Wildcats beat rival Arizona State. Seeing as both UCLA/Stanford and Arizona/Arizona State both start at 12:30 p.m. PT on Friday, this race will literally go down to the wire.
Needless to say, this is going to be a crucial Friday. If you have not already, make sure you are doing nothing the day after Thanksgiving as the Pac-12 South Division and the Championship Game will be decided.
